Peloton is based in Roeselare, the Flemish cycling capital par excellence.
Are you a cycling enthusiast? Then be sure to visit KOERS. Museum of Cycle Racing.
Roeselare is the city of world champions. No fewer than four riders from Roeselare have worn the rainbow jersey: Benoni Beheyt, Patrick Sercu, Jean-Pierre Monseré and Freddy Maertens.
It was also a rider from Roeselare who became the first Belgian to win the Tour de France. Odiel Defraeye was the winner of the 1912 Tour. After the First World War, Defraeye set up an outdoor cycling track in Rumbeke, a district of Roeselare. In the 1960s, Patrick and Albert Sercu restored the track, and in 2011 it was renovated into what it is today: the Defraeye–Sercu cycling track.
Roeselare breathes cycling. The semi-classic Dwars door Vlaanderen, during Flemish Cycling Week, starts in Roeselare. Roeselare is also the place to be for the GP Monseré and a Natour criterium.
